Near-match (LPR misread protection)
Near-match protection is logic that flags a scanned plate differing from a permitted or paid plate by a commonly confused character (O and 0, I and 1, B and 8) or a single swapped pair, before a citation is issued. Plate-reading software and people both make these errors, and without a check a misread becomes a wrongful ticket against someone who paid. The officer confirms or overrides the match, and the decision is logged.
