Non-consensual tow

A non-consensual tow is a tow the vehicle owner did not request, such as removing an unauthorized car from a private lot at the property owner’s direction or an impound ordered by police. Because the owner has no chance to compare prices, many states and cities regulate these tows separately from owner-requested tows, with fee caps, sign rules, licensing, and notice requirements. Texas, for example, regulates private property tows under Occupations Code Chapter 2308.
