Parking charge notice (private parking charge)

A parking charge notice is a demand for payment issued by a private landowner or its agent, rather than a government, for breaking the posted terms of parking on private land. Its legal basis is usually contract or trespass law, not a traffic statute, so it carries no criminal penalty or license points. The term is common in the UK, where it is distinct from a council-issued penalty charge notice; in the US and Canada the same thing is usually called a private parking ticket or violation notice, and whether it can be enforced depends on state or provincial law.
