Warnings, towing, and booting

Warnings are set per lot: choose how many a plate gets before officers are told to ticket. Booting and towing start switched off and Lotably turns them on when you ask; once on, officers find them under More actions after a scan.

Updated October 23, 2026

Warning-first enforcement

  1. 1Open Admin → Lots and edit a lot.
  2. 2Set Warnings before a ticket, from 0 to 10. A plate gets that many warnings at this lot before officers are told to ticket. 0 means ticket right away.
  3. 3To choose how long warnings count, open Admin → Policies, find Warnings, and set Warnings count for (days), from 7 to 730.

A warning has no fine. It goes on the plate’s record, and once a plate has used up its warnings, the officer app leads with a ticket.

Booting

Officers can boot a vehicle with no valid payment, from More actions after a scan. The boot fee, and any unpaid tickets on the plate, are added to what’s owed, and the car can’t leave until the driver pays and the boot is removed.

On Admin → Policies, the Booting card sets the Boot fee ($), the Boot removal phone and the Hours printed under it, so the boot slip tells the driver who to call. You can also add steps that raise the boot fee if it isn’t paid.

In the officer app, boots appear under More actions after a scan, as Boot only or Boot and ticket. Admin → Boots lists every boot, with Mark paid for money received outside the pay page and Void boot for one installed by mistake.

Towing

  1. 1Add the companies you use under Admin → Tow companies: company name, dispatch phone, and optionally the yard address and notes.
  2. 2In the officer app, choose Tow only or Tow and ticket from More actions after a scan.
  3. 3Pick the tow company, add photos of the car and the reason, and record the tow.
  4. 4Call the tow company to send a truck if you haven’t already. The success screen has a button to call them.

Lotably records the tow and keeps it on the plate’s history. Admin → Tows lists every tow.

Turning booting and towing on

Booting and towing start switched off on every new account. If you ask for them at signup, your account goes live without them and Plan & account shows them as Requested until Lotably turns them on. Lotably emails you when they’re on. Lotably does not check whether booting or towing is allowed where you enforce: you are responsible for following the law, and you assume all risk of using them.

To ask for them later, or change any other feature, email Lotably at the address shown on Plan & account.

Common questions

Can a car be booted with no unpaid tickets?

The app leaves that to the officer. After a scan that finds no valid payment, More actions offers Boot only and Boot and ticket, whether or not the plate already owes anything. A paid car that still owes on earlier tickets gets Boot (unpaid balance). Any unpaid tickets on the plate are added to what the driver pays to have the boot removed.

How does a driver get a boot removed?

They pay what’s owed online, including the boot fee, and call the removal phone printed on the boot slip.

Does Lotably send the tow truck?

No. Lotably records the tow and gives the officer a one-tap call to your tow company’s dispatch phone.
