Registration hold
A registration hold is a block a state motor vehicle agency places on renewing or transferring a vehicle’s registration until unpaid government parking tickets are paid. Some states let cities and parking authorities report unpaid citations this way, which makes it one of the strongest collection tools public agencies have. Private lot operators generally cannot use it, because the hold applies to government-issued tickets.
