Tow-away zone

A tow-away zone is an area, marked by posted signs, where unauthorized or illegally parked vehicles may be towed at the owner’s expense. On private property, most states require specific sign content before a tow is lawful, often the tow company’s name and phone number, where the vehicle will be stored, and the fees, and the details differ by state and city. On public streets, tow-away zones are set by local ordinance, commonly for fire lanes, rush-hour lanes, and street cleaning.
